Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – TV station and mobile operator will have soon more in common than only main shareholder.

Polska Telefonia Cyfrowa (PTC), the operator of Era network, starts the cooperation with Polsat. Subscribers of Era will be able to watch in their mobiles materials from some popular Polsat’s programs. That will positively influence revenues of PTC from data transmission.

In the offer there will be e.g. “Wydarzenia”, commentary broadcast of Tomasz Lis „Co z tą Polską” and show of Kuba Wojewódzki.

PTC and Polsat are linked by Zbigniew Solorz. The owner of TV station is a shareholder of Elektrim, that indirectly has shares in PTC. That for sure will ease the alliance, but in fact Era haven’t had any choice.  The competitor, Orange (PTK Centertel) cooperates with TVN, and Plus GSM (Polkomtel) works together with TVP. What benefits count Polsat on? We do not know, because any effort to contact Polsat’s representatives did not succeed. According to the unofficial information, TVN earns quite well on cooperation with Orange.

Era has given video materials to the mobile phone users. Unofficial data indicates that approximately number of imported clips was around 10 thousand.

“I do not expect that our cooperation with Polsat will significantly influence our sales of transmitting data services. We are getting very interesting content, but the sale of it is at the very beginning. The new offer will improve our image, what is very important while the competitors offer similar services”, one of the PTC employees said.

The operator is making an experiment with subscription payments for multimedia services. One of the services is accessible only with flat rate, which is quite rare at the moment.

“Popularity of multimedia services is limited by very low number of appropriate mobile phones”, Marek Wcisło from PTC said.

New video services are accessible on three Nokia models (they have software preinstalled by the producer). However few number of terminals is bigger problem than constrained range of quick data transmission UMTS.
