“Stalexport infringed the law demanding unfair prices for using a section of A4 highway which was under construction”, the statement from UOKiK antimonopoly office read.
Drivers had to pay full fine of PLN 13 (EUR 3.7). Marek Niechcial, UOKiK CEO, fined Stalexport which operates the section with PLN 1.3m. UOKiK experts evaluated that it took even 20 percent more time to go from Krakow to Katowice. The office allows drivers to demand compensation from Stalexport.
The company does not agree with the decision. Its representatives say it has to collect fees to pay credit installments. Experts are surprised with UOKiK’s decision as well.
“In other countries, highway operators also have to modernize the roads but they don’t reduce prices because of that”, Zbigniew Kotlarek, the CEO of the Polish Road Congress and former head of the general directorate for national roads and highways GDDKiA said.
