Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – Because of hot weather, there is not enough energy in Poland. PSE-Operator blocked exports.
PSE-Operator said in its recent communiqué that it reduced the quantity of energy exported since July 25.
“There are several reasons for energy shortage. In the period of hot weather, the demand for energy grew by 10 percent in comparison to previous years. Part of the capacity is under modernization which had been planned before. Some plants are closed because there is not enough water for cooling”, Artur Gluszek, the chief specialist in the operator services department in PSE-Operator explained.
Companies trading with energy lose during export blockade because they are unable to realize their contracts.
“It looks like the operator may do this legally but it has nothing to do with a free economy. This is a proof that there is not enough capacity in the Polish system”, the representative of one of international energy trading companies dealing in Poland commented.
“We have our foreign contracts. We cannot send energy from Poland so we have to buy it paying many times more. In Germany, 1 MWh costs over EUR 100. In Poland despite the shortage, the price rose only minimaly to PLN 120-130 (EUR 30.6-33.2)”, he added.
Waldemar Preussner, the owner of PCC group dealing, among others, with energy trading, is angry.
“This is the second blockade this month. We lost EUR 250,000 last time. This time it will be even Worse because the prices in Germany will jump to EUR 200, so we will lose EUR 250,000 in one day only”, he said.
He said he was not sure if what PSE-Operator does is legal and said he would demand compensation.
“Every business activity is connected with some kind of risk. The companies have enough earnings in exports to afford such losses”, Leszek Juchniewicz, the CEO of the Energy Regulation Office commented.
