Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – Employees will agree for changes in the statute of PGNiG if they receive their shares as promised.
Over 61,000 of former and present employees of Polskie Gornictwo Naftowe i Gazownictwo (PGNiG), the Polish listed gas monopoly, still hope that the government let them acquire a 12.7 percent stake of the giant. The Minister of the Treasure would have to sell a symbolic one share to let the employees make use of their rights. The Minister has failed to do it for over a year now. At the end of October, Piotr Naimski, the deputy Minister of Economy, said there would be no further privatization of PGNiG.
The employees, however, still hope for a change. They won’t support the changes in the statute of the company providing for bigger competences of the Minister of the Treasure otherwise. Yesterday, they filed a suit in the court.
“We want to meet with the Minister of the Treasure to talk about the employee shares but we are told to talk to the Minister of Economy. We are still waiting for the new strategy for the company which should have been ready before November 15th”, Dariusz Matuszewski, the head of the Trade Union Federation of GNiG said.
The strike committee has not ceased to exist and may re-launch activity unless the unions’ expectations are reflected in the new strategy.
Tomasz Fill, PGNiG spokesman said that the strategy may be ready at the end of November or at the beginning of next month. The point of view of the Ministry of the Treasure remains secret. Pawel Szalamacha, the deputy Minister of the Treasure, failed to answer “PB” question whether PGNiG staff will finally be able to get the shares or a compensation will be offered instead.
