Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – Flextronics want to spend PLN 150m (EUR 3.8.2m) but complains that the Polish government cares for the new investors only.
The U.S. concern with over USD 15 billion of sales which already employs 3,000 people in Pomorze Special Economic Zone (PSSE), wants to develop its Polish operations.
“We consider further projects which would increase employment by 800-1,500 people. The building itself is worth PLN 60m plus 15 lines USD 2m each”, Zbigniew Kozicki, the investment director in Flextronics said.
This is PLN 150m altogether. The third plant would be also located in Tczew where the other facilities are. The Polish unit of the biggest contract producer of electronic equipment fights for a big contract.
There are some problems, however. In the first investment project, PSSE provided energy access for the investor.
“Now we need more energy but PSSE is not doing it any longer. They outsourced the operations to another company. They will provide energy to us but we must pay. According to the agreement, we were to receive this service without payment”, Zbigniew Kozicki explained.
“No one is going to burden the company with excessive payments. All they have to pay are regular fees provided in the energy law. We asked Flextronics to officially state what they need. We once invested in infrastructure for this company but they withdrew from the project”, Wlodzimierz Ziolkowski, PSSE CEO replied.
The company complains also that due to the rules concerning public subsidies, they may get about USD 20m of subsidies although they invested over USD 100m and were promised the whole amount at first. The Polish Investment Agency PAIIZ reacted immediately.
“We have called Flextronics. We want investors to treat PAIIZ as their supporter”, Wojciech Szelagowski, PAIIZ deputy CEO said.
