Six companies will soon get permits to invest in Pomorska Special Economic Zone.
“They will invest over PLN 700m and create 1,300 new jobs”, Teresa Kaminska, the zone’s CEO said.
Lafarge Cement is one of these companies. Its project was very attractive, the zone was enlarged by 100 ha in Barcin next to Kujawy cement plant from Lafarge group. The French investor promised to build a new cement production line for EUR 320-350m, or PLN 1.07-1.17bn.
“The company has limited its project to PLN 400m due to limits of carbon dioxide after the year 2012. The project was almost lost to Ukraine where there are no limits. But if the company becomes member of special economic zone, which now must be again approved of by the government, the project will come to Poland. And in several years’ time, the company will decide for further stages of the project”, a person who took part in negotiations revealed.
In April, when “PB” for the first time wrote about Lafarge plans, Luc Callebat, the company’s CEO, stressed that the project depended on the special economic zone status and the rules of carbon dioxide emission.
The remaining five projects include one from a company from Mondi group. Mondi last year decided to invest PLN 836. The new project – according to former pledges – amounts to PLN 144m, sustaining 249 existing jobs and creating 10 new ones.
“Besides, Warmus Investment, the producer of construction materials and yachts, will invest PLN 15m. Univerpal will also invest in the zone”, Teresa Kaminska added.
