Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – Marek Mroczkowski is the most probable candidate for the post of PKN Orlen CEO, “PB” source says. Mr. Heydel and mysterious businessman from Sweden are also on the short list.

Yesterday, the supervisory board of PKN Orlen, Poland’s biggest fuel company with market capitalization of PLN 18bn (EJR 5.3bn), met for several hours to discuss the names for the short list for the post of the CEO. It seemed that Marek Mroczkowski was the candidate no. 1. He is the head of Mazeikiu refinery in Lithuania, part of PKN Orlen group. Before, he was the CEO of Petrochemia Plock, CEO of Polkomtel telecom and CEO of Czech Unipetrol owned by PKN Orlen.

“Marek Mroczkowski has the personal support from the Minister of Economy, Waldemar Pawlak who agreed with the Citizens’ Platform (PO) that his Peasants’ Party (PSL) would decide about PKN Orlen while Citizens’ Party about KGHM. Marek Mroczkowski is supported by businessmen closely related with Waldemar Pawlak including Konrad Jaskola, the CEO of Polimex Mostostal. The two worked together at Petrochemia Plock”, “PB” source revealed.

Marek Mroczkowski has strong rivals, however, including Wojciech Heydel, the temporary CEO of PKN Orlen and Jacek Krawiec, CEO of Action IT company, before head of Impexmetal and Elektrim. There is also a mysterious businessman from Scandinavia mentioned.

More people have applied for the post, including Jaroslaw Krynski, deputy CEO of rival Grupa Lotos, before a manager at Shell and Krzysztof Szwedowski, today member of PKN Orlen’s management, before deputy CEO of the Supreme Chamber of Control.
