Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – In 2007, the low-cost carrier may build its operating base in Poland. However, instead of Modlin which has been considered so far, it may choose Krakow, Wroclaw or Lodz.
The Irish Ryanair was going to build its operating base in Modlin near Warsaw.
“It looks like the authorities of Mazowsze region and Warsaw city see no need to develop low-cost routes and their region at the same time. They are not doing anything to encourage Porty Lotnicze airport operator, which will control the airport in Modlin”, Tomasz Kulakowski from Ryanair stressed.
“There is no pressure to delay construction works in Modlin. We want to build the airport as soon as possible. It may start operations in the middle of 2008. If Ryanair does not want to build such a base in Modlin, fortunately it is not the only carrier interested in the project”, Artur Burak, PP Porty Lotnicze spokesman replied.
Tomasz Kulakowski is sure that the airport in Sochaczew will start operations first.
“In Sochaczew, they have strictly business attitude towards the investment project, with no political nuances”, Tomasz Kulakowski said.
He added that instead of Modlin, Ryanair could build its operating base in Wroclaw, Krakow or Lodz as early as in 2007.
The plans to build another base, the technical one, have also stuck.
“Latvia government is very engaged in the negotiations. The Polish are not, only the Polish Information and Investment Agency is interested in this project”, Tomasz Kulakowski stressed.
