Thinking of coke

The privatisation of the Przyjazń coking works has come to a deciding phase. Railway concern PKP, coal concern JSW and the German Petro Carbo Chem have all finished their studies of the assets of the company and are considering if it is worth offering more. They have thinking time until the middle of next month.

The coking plant is heavily in debt. It owes the PKP PLN48.8m and coal miners JSW a massive PLN300m. Nonetheless it has not frightened the coal concern but they say they will not accept responsibility to repay all the debts.

The plant produces 2.5m tons of coke per year. It has been managed for the last four years by an emergency committee although for the last four months it claims to be making a profit.
