Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – The Warsaw Stock Exchange is changing the indices

On March 19th, the Warsaw Stock Exchange (GPW), will start using a new version of its market indices.

“The changes are aimed at the possibility to better describe the market which is the basis for many analyses”, Ludwik Sobolewski, GPW CEO said.

WIG20, the index of blue chips is not going to change. The 40 companies following the blue chips in the ranking will build the mWIG40 index which is going to replace MIDWIG.

“The new index of mid-caps will reflect the situation better because it will always consist of 40 companies. So far, the number has been fluctuant”, Ludwik Sobolewski explained.

The next 80 companies in the ranking will build sWIG80, which is going to replace WIRR.

“These are not going to be small companies only”, GPW CEO added.

WIG will be slightly changed as well. So far, every company was included in this index. Since March, the free float of WIG companies will have to amount to over EUR 1m and constitute above 10 percent of the capital. About 250 companies would build it today.

In the future, GPW plans to transform WIG20 into WIG25 or WIG30.
