Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – The Ministry of Education tripled funds provided for IT educational centers in the countryside. Tenders are going on.

1,100 remote educational centers will be founded all over Poland. The project is worth PLN 150m (EUR 41.2m). The centers should be operational in June 2008 at the latest. They are supposed to be modern educational centers with computers, office and telecommunication devices where people will be able to learn via the internet. EFS is financing 75 percent of this program. At first, the scale of the project was supposed to be three times smaller. The ministry of education (MEN) had PLN 50m. Now, there are three projects, not one, worth PLN 150m.

“We provide financing thanks to saving funds in other EU projects”, Witold Witowski from MEN said.

Consortia of private firms and organizations will build the centers. The founders will have to maintain the centers for 5 years offering free training for, among others, unemployed people trying to change their job or training local teachers. At that time, they need to find a way to finance current operations of the centers.

So far, two tenders for the equipment necessary in the centers have been announced.
