Tomorrow, at a press conference, ABB will tell about its new project. The Swiss-Swedish company with 120 years of history has recently become member of the Lodz special economic zone. In Aleksandrow Lodzki at 8.8ha of land it is going to build a plant of electric engines. Till the end of 2009, it will spent PLN 61.6m (EUR 17.1m) for the project and till the end of 2011, it will employ 150 people. The project may be further developed in the future. Thanks to the investment, Europe’s most modern electric engine plant will be built.
ABB made the decision after one year of negotiations. A site in Hungary was also considered. ABB has been present in Poland since 1990 and today employs 1,800 peoplehere . It has several plants in Poland, many of them in Lodz. In the world, it has plants in about 100 countries. In 2006, the company increased sales from USD 22 to 24.4bn and net income from USD 735m to USD 1.39bn. The number of employees grew from 104,000 to 108,000.
