EU cement producers have appealed to the EU to be given necessary carbon dioxide limits for free. EU is preparing a directive aimed at reducing the emission by further 20 percent in the years 2013-20. In the years 2008-12, Poland had 26.7 lower limits already. After the year 2013, the situation of the cement sector will get even tougher. Prices will grow. Boston Consulting Group report proves that this will put an end to cement production in the European Union. Prices may grow by 120 percent while the demand will grow in Poland by 24-26.5m tons in the years 2013-20. Last year, 16.7m tons of cement were produced in the country.
The companies already have plants in Eastern Europe where there are no limits.
“We will have to import cement from Ukraine, Russia and Africa”, Jan Deja,
the director of the Association of Cement Producers said.
