Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – The banking supervisory commission KNB failed to make decision on the permission for Unicredito to vote during Bank BPH GSM.
The meeting of KNB did not end with decision allowing for the merger of Pekao and Bank BPH. The commission will again view the application in three weeks’ time. This complicates the situation of Unicredito, the Italian investor of both Polish banks.
“What we care for is the state of the law and public interest. That is why at the prosecutor’s apply, the decision was postponed”, Zyta Gilowska, the Minister of Finance said.
The government wanted this decision. It is going to file a suit against the decision of Leszek Balcerowicz, the head of the National Bank of Poland, not to allow the representatives of the Ministry of the Treasure to take part in KNB meeting. The government hopes the decision will be overturned.
Unicredito representatives refused to comment. The European Commission believes that Poland does not want to abide to EU regulations. EC agreed for the merger of Pekao and Bank BPH last year.
