The government list of road building projects for the years 2007-13 provides for PLN 73bn (EUR 21.9bn). If road authorities GDDKiA want to receive EU funds for them, they need to sign preliminary contracts before September.
“So far, only one contract worth PLN 2bn has been signed. It provides for a road in Warsaw. We want to sign all preliminary contracts in July and August”, Magdalena Jaworska, GDDKiA deputy CEO said.
Without a preliminary contract in September, a project will be removed from the list. GDDKiA will need to negotiate to put it on the list again.
“Unless we realize the road building program, it will be a political disaster of this government. It’s not the eleventh hour, it’s already too lat. We have lost a lot of time and I believe that the present cabinet understands we cannot lose time and we need to take steps to realize the projects. Euro costs over PLN 4, and not PLN 3.3. Materials costs have jumped. The longer we wait, the more expensive it will get”, Dariusz Slotwkinski, Strabag development director commented.
The value of the road building projects from the basic EU list amounts to PLN 56.3bn. Subsidy from Brussels amounts to PLN 36.6bn. GDDKiA has PLN 73bn for investment projects from EU list.
