Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – Ukrainian company wants to become the strategic investor of Stocznia Gdansk. It looks like Donbas was successfully discouraged by the state from investing in Stocznia Gdynia.

Donbas, the owner of Huta Czestochowa steel plant, bought several percent of shares of Stocznia Gdansk shipyard. The transaction was worth PLN 5m (EUR 1.3m).

“This is the first step to start cooperation. We will found teams to prepare strategy to deliver steel products from the steel plant to the shipyard and for the shipyard to develop production of steel constructions. It’s worthwhile to intensify cooperation”, Konstanty Litwinow representing Donbas in Poland said.

He added that Donbas sent a letter to the shipyard offering to buy its controlling stake. The owners are to decide whether this would be by injecting fresh capital into the company or buying shares.

“We are open to different options. We also take into account that a tender is announced, in which it will be decided whether we win or someone else appears with an interesting offer”, Konstanty Litwinow said.

The new plans mean that Stocznia Gdynia is no longer priority to Donbas.

“We submitted our offer in December, but as far as I know it has not been approved of. We have not received any official rejection but we get such signals. Talks about Stocznia Gdynia have lasted for a year now and may last much longer. Stocznia Gdansk is therefore our priority now”, Konstanty Litwinow explained.
