PKP PLK, the state-owned railway company, plans giant investments in the upcoming five years. The fact that Poland is organizing EURO2012 made it necessary to speed up the planned modernization.
Till 2012, the Warsaw-Gdynia line will be ready. Trains will be able to go with the speed of 200km/h and it will take 2.14h to get from one city to another. The costs of this project will amount to EUR 800m.
It will take 2.20h to get from Warsaw to Krakow. Trains will also go with the speed of 200km/h as early as in 2009. The costs: EUR 200m. Although no matches are planned in Katowice, the route from this city to Krakow will be modernized as well. It will take 1h to get there.
The Warsaw-Poznan railway will be modernized, too, and the travel time will shorten to 2.5h. From Poznan to Wroclaw passengers will travel within 1.5h. It costs EUR 2-5m to modernize 1km of railways.
