A group of Polish investment funds linked to BRE Bank is reported to be interested in investing in the telecoms sector. They are especially interested in those operators which belong to the now bankrupt PTO located in southern Poland. The only investor so far has been the Fortuna national investment fund in which BRE Bank is a shareholder. Last year the fund loaned a company registered abroad USD5m for the purchase of those operators. The credit was to be changed for a shareholding in those telecoms companies.
The Foksal national investment fund, in which BRE Bank has a 24 percent stake, is also considering such an investment.
It is no secret that the liquidators of the PTO several months ago started negotiations with several national investment funds although the latter are no longer prepared to openly discuss this.
