Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – The German network of private healthcare outlets wants to enter the Polish market. It starts with Koszalin where it wants to invest in a new hospital.
Rhoen Klinikum, which manages 45 hospitals in Germany, wants to build a new hospital in Koszalin with 300-400 beds where 30,000 patients would be cured. Today, the municipal authorities spend PLN 300,000 (EUR 77,400) annually to secure an unfinished hospital.
“The talks with the German have been going on for several years now. The present president Miroslaw Mikietynski was leading them when he was the head of the hospital. Recently, the negotiations have been restarted. Meetings are planned in August and September”, Grzegorz Slizewski, the spokesman of Koszalin municipal authorities said.
The authorities are also going to spend PLN 20,000 to prepare a feasibility study for the project. Offers will be send out to potential investors all over Europe. Andrzej Sokolowski, the CEO of the Polish Association of Private Hospitals, has not heard about Rhoen Klinikum nor its plans concerning Poland. But in his opinion, foreign operators do not have big chances to exist in Poland.
“We are waiting for them but there is too big risk”, he said.
He reminded that a British association of private hospitals tried to enter the Polish market but when it saw how services are contracted – it gave up. So did Irish BUPA and French Generale de Sante. Swedish Capio, present in Poland since 1996, sold its laboratory to Medicover.
