According to preliminary data from the Ministry of Labor, the unemployment rate fell to 13-13.1 percent at the end of May, or by 0.6-0.7 percent against April and by 3.4-3.5 percent against May 2006. The Ministry believes that the decrease in unemployment is caused by seasonal works in gardening, construction, road building and tourism. Anna Kalata, the Minister of Labor, believes that the unemployment rate will fall to 11 percent at the end of this year.
“These estimates are more or less similar to our forecasts of 12 percent in May and 11.5 percent at the end of the year. Economy develops fast and the demand for workers will grow”, Piotr Bielski, BZ WBK economist said.
