Head of police IT department under fire

Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) - Andrzej Machnacz, the head of police IT department, goes to foreign conferences with companies who win the tenders announced by police authorities. While this is a fact, it  remains unknown whether – as a PB source says – the tenders are fake. Machnacz denies the accusations and assures that someone is trying to tarnish his reputation.

Police have PLN 0.5bn (EUR 138.5m) to spend for IT systems within two years. It looks like someone does not like Andrzej Machnacz who is responsible for the orders. Just before Christmas “PB” editorial office, similarly to at least two other Polish newspapers, received a denunciation. It read that Andrzej Machnacz would go to conferences sponsored by IT producers. It was the second denunciation against the man. Before, police headquarters received a similar letter. Andrzej Machnacz confirms he took part in the conferences but it turns out that the police paid for them.

“We learn about most modern technologies during such conferences and we talk about experiences of the other users of such systems. These are our duties”, Andrzej Machnacz explained.

The companies which have received the biggest orders from the Polish police include Oracle, HP, Sygnity and Prokom.
