Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – The new CEO of HSBC has a lot to do because the world’s third largest bank has not been very active in Poland so far.

The banking supervision commission KNB approved for Janusz Dedo to become the CEO of HSBC Bank Polska. The manager has recently headed Pekao in Ukraine, and he was the deputy CEO of Pekao before.

“So far, HSBC has been building its base in Poland. Now, we are working over a plan for the retail market”, Janusz Dedo said only.

He is going to spend the upcoming weeks to negotiate and work over the strategy with the owners, i.e. the British HSBC.

Janusz Dedo refused to comment whether HSBC would try to buy 200 outlets of Bank BPH to be put up for sale due to the merger with Pekao. According to unofficial sources, the British institution is one of the main candidates to acquire the so called “mini BPH”. According to DI BRE Bank analysts, the fact that Janusz Dedo was appointed HSBC CEO is another proof for that.

“Janusz Dedo is a very ambitious independent manager who had no chance to show his competences in Pekao Ukraina, which is one of the smallest banks in this region. I believe that his move to HSBC is connected with detailed promises of actions he will be allowed to run in Poland”, the member of the board responsible for retail business in one of Poland’s biggest banks commented.

However, he is not afraid of competition.

“Poland has been a marginal market for HSBC so far but maybe the bank has finally decided to do something here. Introducing Janusz Dedo to the management may be a sign that the British has finally decided to do something about it”, Marcin Materna, Millennium DM analyst added.
