Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – Hulls for the Royal Navy’s planned GBP2 billion fleet of new supply and long-range refueling ships could be built in Poland.
The news was published by UK “The Herald”. Other possible deliverer is East Germany. At present, the hulls are produced in Clyde near Glasgow or England. The British plan to build eight new ships. The Polish shipyards see no technical obstacles to realize the project.
“In theory, it is possible because the construction of hulls for civilian and military ships is not much different”, Jerzy Lewandowski, the CEO of Stocznia Gdynia shipyard said.
The problem may be the deadline. The British Ministry of Defence needs the ships early in the next decade.
“We could have difficulties to place the order among other contracts”, Jerzy Lewandowski added.
The outsourcing could generate up to 30 percent of savings to Royal Navy’s.
