Insurance polices market grows 15 percent annually

Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – The Poles spent PLN 21.8 billion (EUR 5.8 billion) to buy insurance polices in the first half of the year.

Insurance companies thrive in Poland. In the first half of the year, they raised nearly PLN 3 billion, or 15 percent more than a year ago. Life insurances market grows even faster. Insurers collected PLN 12.57 billion, or 20 percent more than in the first half of 2006.

“Economic growth influences bigger interest in polices among both companies and private persons”, Marcin Demianczuk, member of the board at JLT-Siaci broker said.

PZU Zycie is the biggest life insurer in Poland with PLN 3.5 billion premiums collected in the first six months of the year. The result is, however 9 percent worse than last year’s. PZU’s market share dropped from 38 to 28 percent. Commercial Union, the second in the ranking, has 12.6 percent of the market with PLN 1.56 billion of premiums. Aegon collected PLN 1.47 billion while Allianz, previously number 3, raised PLN 1.22 billion.
