Investors flood the Warsaw Stock Exchange

Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – After three consecutive days of growth, the WIG20 index rose to its highest level in a month and exceeded the psychological barrier of 3,000 points. The WSE is still far lower than its US peers. S&P500 has shed only 3.4 percent this year while DJI 1.8 percent. WIG20 has lost nearly 12 percent this year.

The volume of trade was quite high and exceeded PLN 1.8bn. The strong strengthening of the zloty against the euro suggests that foreign investors were actively trading yesterday. In result, the Wig20 index close to its day’s high and added nearly 2 percent. Indices of small and mid-caps did rose only slightly.

Biggest banks rose more than the 20 share blue chips index. BZWBK and BRE were the best performers in this group. Cersanit tile producer gained over 5 percent. Agora was the only blue chips to end down on the news that sales of Gazeta Wyborcza daily have fallen. Cyfrowy Polsat which had its debut yesterday ended up despite the fact that a substantial group of investors wanted to sell their shares. CAM Media which had its debut today, opened nearly 5 percent up.
