Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – Marian Krawczyk, a businessman with 35th biggest assets in Poland (PLN 450m or EUR 111.6m), and the CEO of KEM, plans to acquire Kopex, listed mining machines producer and exporter. KSC, Polish state-owned sugar producer, wants to sell the 64.64 percent stake in Kopex, which it received as capitalisation. ‘I am interested in Kopex because the merger would give us synergies’, Marian Krawczyk believed. There are three other companies interested in Kopex, including Famur mining machines producer, which is going to be listed soon.
‘If we don’t buy Kopex, we will buy other listed companies but I’m interested in controlling stakes only. I won’t reveal now, which companies I’m interested in. IPO of KEM is also possible’, KEM CEO said. KEM was founded in 1992. It first traded with metals and alcohol. Two years ago it bought Mostostal Chojnice steel parts producer. 1,100 people work in Kem group. Last year, it had sales of PLN 664m and gross income of PLN 26m. ‘KEM is Poland’s leading steel trading company. In my opinion, it is one of ten biggest firms. Last year was very profitable for such companies, this year, they have to verify their position. It won’t be that easy to make money. It’s time to seriously engage in the business, it’s time for professionals’, Andrzej Ciepiela, the director of the Polish Union of Steel Distributors commented.
