Pol-Miedz Trans, the transport subsidiary of KGHM listed copper conglomerate wants to develop its offer beyond Lower Silesia region. It is going to buy 15 electric locomotives and 500 cargo carriages. The locomotives will cost up to EUR 75m. The company is going to finance the transaction with its own funds. Jointly with four other private carriers, Pol-Miedz Trans is negotiating with European train producers concerning the acquisition.
“We are talking about prices and technical parameters”, Mieczyslaw Czerpita from Pol-Miedz Trans said.
The company receives more and more orders to transport cargo after it signed contract with French Colas group last year. Because Poland is organizing Euro 2012, the demand for, i.e. road materials transported by Pol-Miedz Trans, will grow. The company transports 15m tons of cargo annually. Today, it has 40 locomotives and over 1,000 trains.
