Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – A terminal, a hotel, a  park-site and tracks. These are investments started by Krakow airport.

In 2007, Balice, the Krakow airport, had 3m passengers. This year, it is estimated that their number will grow by 0.5m. In 2012, it should grow to over 5m. That’s why investments are needed.

“We have prepared a masterplan and an investment plan up to 2015. It provides for the construction of a terminal, a hotel, a park site and tracks”, Kamil Kaminski, the airport CEO said.

Investments will cost PLN 1bn (EUR 279m). Optimistically, EU will cover 40 percent of these costs. In 2008, the airport plans to spend PLN 130m.

“We have announced tender to build the park site. We will soon announce a tender to offer designs connected with the terminal. The whole cost of this project amounts to PLN 200m”, the CEO said.

Construction works will start in 2009. In 2010, the arrival terminal should be ready, and a year later – the whole project. The terminal will suffice to have 8-9m passengers. This year, the airport will start works connected with modernization of tracks.

20 airlines fly from Krakow, including 10 traditional ones and 10 low-cost ones. The latter generate about 65 percent of the traffic.
