Consolidation in the educational publishing market is seen as essential. As part of this process Kielce based MAC Edukacja is attempting to acquire Wydawnictwa Szkolne i Pedagogiczne (WSiP) and has bid PLN290m for an 85 percent stake in the company which is in the process of being privatised.
Adam Cyraski, the MD of the company says that consolidation is difficult as most publishers are family firms who may not understand the economic reality of the day.
However this may be necessary if rival Musa wins in its bid to acquire WSiP.
MAC Edukacja has the support of Innova Capital and Enterprise Investors, irrespective of whether or not the acquisition goes ahead. The funds have announced that they will be taking a minority stake in the publisher.
