British Mecom is fed up with co-existing with state-owned shareholder of Presspublica, the publisher of “Rzeczpospolita”.
“Rzeczpospolita is one of the few dailies in democratic countries with the state as a shareholder. We offered the previous government to buy 49 percent stake and we repeat the offer”, Truls Velgaard, Presspublika CEO said.
According to “PB” sources, Mecom had sent a letter to the Minister of the Treasury on March 10th. It proposes talks concerning selling the stake. Aleksander Grad, the Minister of the Treasury, has said before that the stake could be sold on the stock exchange as early as this year.
The British company denies the rumors that it may sell its stake in Presspublika. In Poland, Mecom has Media Regionalne, the owner of 11 regional titles. Polish business generated PLN 30m (EUR 8.5m) of operating income against PLN 538m of sales. The investor promises that its dividend won’t be as high as last year.
