Naspers strengthens its position in Poland

Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – and Gadu-Gadu have a common owner: Naspers from South Africa.


The first rumors that Tradus, owner of, an online auction and shopping website, would be acquired by Naspers from South Africa appeared late last year. Last Friday, the transaction was concluded. Naspers acquired Tradus, earlier QXL Ricardo at a price of GBP 18 a share. The whole company is evaluated at GBP 1bn. Naspers is going to announce a tender call to buy Tradus’s shares and withdraw the company from the London Stock Exchange.


After the acquisition Naspers has Polish Gadu-Gadu communicator and Gadu-Gadu is used by 6m people. Last year, the company had PLN 20.2m (EUR 5.7m) of sales and PLN 9.55m of net income. is Poland’s biggest online auction with about 7.5m users. Sales generated on this platform amounted to PLN 3.8bn last year, or PLN 1bn more than in 2006.
