Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – After the conflict with Eureko is ended, the idea of a Polish financial group consisting of PKO BP and PZU should be reviewed, Slawomir Skrzypek, PKO BP deputy CEO believes.

PKO BP, Poland’s biggest bank, plans to be number one even after the merger of Pekao and Bank BPH, or the country’s second and third largest financial institutions.

“Firstly, we still don’t know what part of Bank BPH will be absorbed by Pekao. Secondly, the assets of banks do usually not sum up in case of a merger. Thirdly, even if we lost the leading position, we are able to regain it quickly although the merged bank may have some ratios better at first like C/I ratio”, Slawomir Skrzypek, PKO BP deputy CEO responsible for corporate banking and administration said.

In his opinion, PKO BP may become the leader of the national financial group in the future.

“When the clash with Eureko is over, the idea of creating a national financial group on the basis of PKO BP and PZU should be reviewed”, Slawomir Skrzypek said.

The group would be supported by Poczta Polska, the state-owned post and Bank Pocztowy. The idea seems difficult to implement as Eureko, a minority shareholder in PZU, is not going to allow for it.

Slawomir Skrzypek denied the rumors that he wants to become PKO BP CEO. Andrzej Podsiadlo, the present head of the company, leaves in October while Slawomir Skrzypek is connected to PiS, the ruling party. He was a close co-worker of Lech Kaczynski, the present president of Poland, while he was the president of Warsaw.

“I’m not applying to become PKO BP CEO. By the way, to clear up media rumors, I would like to state that I was never going to become the CEO of Polkomtel, PKP or any other firm. I have always wanted to work in the financial and banking sector”, Slawomi Skrzypek said.
