Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – According to Jacek Oblekowski, the deputy CEO of PKO BP, the bank wants to win further pieces of the banking cake.
The first half of the year was record for PKO BP as far as the sales of retail products are concerned. The net income of the biggest retail bank in Poland may be the highest in the history. Jacek Oblekowski said that the bank will focus on retail clients.
“In the first half of the year, the retail banking generated over 50 percent of the income. I cannot tell you how much we earned but it is going to be a record”, Jacek Oblekowski said.
Analysts believe that the net income might have exceeded PLN 1 billion (EUR 255m) already.
“PKO BP may have PLN 2 billion of net income this year. If the management is satisfied, the first half might have been reached already. The conditions on the retail market were very good. The question is how much the bank has lost on falling bonds. According to the recent data, the portfolio is worth about PLN 20 billion”, Artur Szeski, Pekao analyst commented.
The banks income is mainly generated by credits. In the first half of the year, it gave PN 4.9 billion of mortgage loans, or 40 percent more than in the same period of 2005. PKO BP has nearly 30 percent of the market, the most of all Polish banks. According to Jacek Oblekowski, the bank has great growth potential on the market of credit cards.
“We are running 5.8m of personal accounts while we have issued 680,000 of active credit cards”, he explained.
