Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – The Ministry of Infrastructure received 14 applications from entities interested in the EUR 50 million of EU funds. The money are to be spend on carriages and locomotives solely. Surprisingly, next to PKP Przewozy Regionalne regional railway carrier and PKP Intercity, local authorities responsible for railway transport in their regions also applied for the funds. ‘The project provides for improving the conditions of transport between towns and cities. It is hard to say who will get the support’, Przemyslaw Gorgol, a director of infrastructure financing and EU funds in the Ministry of Infrastructure said.

Janusz Dettlaff, the head of PKP Przewozy Regionalne, hopes to get the majority of the funds. ‘We applied for co-financing of three projects worth PLN 422 million (EUR 100.9 million). We have PLN 200 million. If we get the support, we will buy 11 new electric traction networks for PLN 206 million. We will modernise 75 ones for PLN 200 million. We will also restore 80 carriages’, the CEO enumerated. He believes that the tenders for new machines will be announced this year.
