(Puls Biznesu) – Poczta Polska (PP), the Polish post is getting ready to the liberalisation of the market which will end in 2009. The company is investing in modern shipping-distribution centres, which will sort letters and packages. There are two such centres in Poland today, in Warsaw and Poznan. ‘This year, four others will be build in Bydgoszcz, Gdansk, Zabrze and Wroclaw. The projects will cost PLN 1 billion (EUR 242 m)’, Andrzej Pacholski, postal operations director in PP said.

To become more competitive, PP is going to sell the units of investment funds in the near future. ‘Till the end of January, we will choose three or four investment funds, which will have exclusive co-operation rights for a certain period of time. Till January 12th we are waiting for final offers’, Mariusz Wnuk, the head of financial and market services department in PP explained. He assured that the investment funds will be offered to clients in the middle of the year because the IT system is nearly ready and PP has only to train its employees.

Investments will not adversely affect financial results. ‘This year’s plans are similar to last year’s. Gross income should amount to PLN 50- 60 m, while sales to PLN 6.1-6.2 billion’, Janina Chroscicka-Sawic, deputy CEO in PP said. After 11 months of 2004, PP had sales of PLN 5.81 billion and gross income of PLN 200 m.
