It’s getting more and more likely that the Dutch shareholder of PZU insurer will receive compensation from Poland. Yesterday in Parliament, Zdzislaw Gawlik, deputy minister of the treasury, admitted that the situation is very difficult.
“There is no clash at present whether we will pay compensation to Eureko. There is a clash over how much we will pay”, Zdzislaw Gawlik told MPs.
This is the result of the first phase of arbitrary proceedings.
“We have a partly decision which says that Poland infringed the treaty. Our appeal was rejected. I may not like this decision but it does not change the fact that the decision does exist”, Zdzislaw Gawlik added.
In the second phase of proceedings which is going on, the court will decide about the compensation. Eureko demands as much as PLN 35.6bn (EUR 11bn). A month ago, negotiations between Eureko and the ministry of the treasury, ended with a fiasco.
