Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) - Who wants to be exempted from paying surcharge tax, should show his assets. This is the idea of amendments implemented by the Ministry of Finance in the tax law. Experts warn that instead of liberalization promised by Citizens’ Platform in election campaign, the companies and citizens face tougher tax rules.

Citizens’ Platform government had promised to stop the practices of immediate requirement to pay surcharge tax by companies and citizens. This policy destroyed several companies, including JTT or Optimus. They paid the taxes, went bankrupt, and later on it turned out that fiscal authorities had been wrong. According to new rules, tax due was supposed to be collected when courts review the appeals. This was the provision of the bill in the package of reforms prepared by Adam Szejnfeld, the deputy minister of economy. Entrepreneurs welcomed the news but the ministry of finance implemented several amendments.

The most dangerous one is the report on one’s assets. Tax authorities may demand it if a person or company wants to stop the collection of surcharge tax. If the taxpayer refuses, he will have to pay the surcharge at once. Analysts warn that this is a way for fiscal authorities to easier control the assets. It contradicts the assumption that taxpayers are innocent. New law may especially hit private people who will not want to reveal their assets fearing that the data would leak to criminals.

Adam Szejnfeld assures that his intentions are good.

“We will again review these regulations. There is time to amend the bill”, Adam Szejnfeld said.
