Police authorities headed by Andrzej Matejuk consider to conduct necessary acquisitions of equipment and cars avoiding the law on public tenders. The acquisition of 1,700 police vans worth nearly PLN 200m (EUR 57m) has already been excluded from the procedure. Companies don’t like it.
“Before, there were ordinary tenders for such transactions. Why are they now described as ‘important for the state’s security’? The explanation is questionable”, a representative of one of car producers commented.
So far, cars and even weapons were bought in normal tenders. Tomasz Kowalczyk from the police explains, however, that it was necessary to exclude such acquisitions from the law on tenders.
“Police needs individual solutions. Many companies don’t want to meet our needs and they try to block tenders. We can’t let it go like that”, Tomasz Kowalczyk said.
It is possible that the police will buy passenger cars worth PLN 200m in the simpler procedures. For over 18 months, it has been unable to buy them, and there have been two tenders already. This year, the police has PLN 1.8bn for investments, next year the amount will be the same.
