The biggest railway network joining Basra in Iraq with Oman is planned to be built soon.
“It’s for cargo. The network should be an emergency in case of a political crisis in the region which would close the Persian Gulf”, Tomasz Wysocki, the counselor of the Polish embassy in the United Arab Emirates said.
In May, Minister of Transport Jerzy Polaczek is visiting the region.
“The talks will concern the Polish part in the railway project. We hope that the visit of the minister will revive good business relations between Poland and Arab countries. We have received funds from the Ministry of Economy to organize an investment forum in the United Arab Emirates while the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is engaged in organizing Polish days in Dubai”, Roman Chalaczkiewicz, the Polish ambassador in the United Arab Emirates said.
Stanislaw Kogut, PiS senator, and a member of the Polish-Arab parliamentary group, has no doubts that the project is profitable.
“This is a giant project, so are the money to be taken. A consortium should take part in the tenders as there will be probably several of them. The consortium would include not only Poland’s biggest companies like Trakcja Polska, Torpol, or Hochtief, but also Przedsiebiorstwa Robot Kolejowych, companies dealing with railway repairs or energy companies. The tenders may as well concern acquiring new carriages because the Arabs are only launching railway transport”, Stanislaw Kogut convinced.
Polish companies have big experience in infrastructure building in the Middle East. Dromex and GPRD built big part of high ways in Iraq and Libya.
