Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – The operator of optical fiber lines may go bankrupt although it has 1,500 km of lines.
Tele-Pern, the operator of one of Poland’s longest optical fiber lines, which offers its services on 1,500 km along PERN pipeline plus service further 800 km, has big problems. The company, with lines going outside Poland to Germany and the Czech Republic is in so many court proceedings that its shareholders consider announcing a bankruptcy.
“We are negotiating with several entities concerning the settlements. Tele-PERN would like to start fighting for the market and we need funds for investment. That’s why we are waiting for our partner PERN Przyjazn, who owns 100 percent of our shares concerning the capitalization”, Krzysztof Krywko, Tele-PERN CEO said.
The representatives of the company suggest that they me forced to announce bankruptcy. The spokesman of the company did not confirm it officially.
Analysts are surprised.
“The telecom infrastructure is being build along with the pipeline. It’s a waste of time and money not to use it to sell services. One may thought that the bankruptcy is a way to enable someone else take the infrastructure over. Netia, TeliaSonera or MNI are interested in such a possibility”, Andrzej Piotrowski from the economic think-tank Centrum im. Adama Smitha said.
Tele-PERN has several legal problems. Siemens is one of its contractors demanding PLN 3m of damages in two court cases.
