Notwithstanding current difficulties with Netia and a slack telecommunications market, Telia International Carrier, a part of the Telia telecommunications group, has announced that it will shortly conclude the construction of a fibre optic network between Warsaw and Prague which is part of the Viking network which in turn will be part of a global network belonging to the Swedish operator.
The cost of this link is around PLN100m and will permit data transmission at up to 64x10 Gb/s.
Thanks to joint work with Telekomunikacja Kolejowa, a subsidiary of PKP, a link between Berlin and Warsaw was opened in September.
Due to a downturn in the market, Telia is seeking cheaper options such as the project alongside Telekomunikacja Kolejowa. However the company remains convinced that demand remains strong.
The company is also planning on linking Scandinavia with Poland through the Baltic Sea Cable project although a date for work to start has not yet been set.
