In the third quarter of 2008, 271 new companies were founded in Poland, only a fraction of the result for the previous quarter when it amounted to 4,100 companies.
“It looks like the forecast of slowing economy influences decisions of potential entrepreneurs. The risk is bigger so people are not so eager to launch their own business”, Urszula Krynska, Bank Millennium economist commented.
“If in the fourth quarter, the growth will be small again, it will mean that our economy is nearly saturated. In recent years, many companies have been founded and there is no place for new ones, especially in the present situation in the world”, Marcin Mroz, Fortis Bank chief economist said.
All sectors see lower dynamics. In construction, retail and industry, the
number of companies fell in the third quarter by 59, 308 and 341 companies
respectively.
