Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – 50 companies in 12 consortia submitted their offers for the contract to created border protection system in Poland worth PLN 200 m (EUR 48.5 m). The interested companies include world’s giants (Airbus) as well as Poland’s biggest IT companies (Prokom). In the near future, seven consortia will be chosen for further tender proceedings. ‘Then, the companies will have two months to prepare final offers. The deadline should be expected in May, and the choice of the contractor and finalising the agreement should happen in June-July. Unless there are protests’, a person close to the project revealed.
As far as Polish companies are concerned, consortia led by Prokom and Computerland (CL), Poland’s two biggest integrators are created. Prokom’s partners include French Alcatel and Israeli Elbit. CL has six partners in the consortium, including German Siemens and US Opto. Rival Biatel built consortium with EADA and BAE Systems, the producers of Airbus. There are several Israeli companies in some of the consortia, including Elbit, IAI, Orad Control, MER & Corp, which may be the result of big experience in security and protection systems of those companies.
Works over the project were started at the end of 2003. After summer 2004, the first tender was announced but it was cancelled after Polish IT chamber PIIT had protested because Polish officials mistook procedures. PIIT protested at this tender, too, but it reached agreement with Border Watch Services and the process was not withheld.
