Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – The WIG20 index fell by 2 percent in the first minutes of trading but in the afternoon the losses were reduced to only 0.79 percent. MIDWIG exceeded its all time record for the third time. It rose 1.1 percent to 2,547.93 points.

In the morning, investors got upset due to news on panic in the Tokyo stock exchange. Poland was no exception, other Euroland’s indices fell too. Tuesday losses in the Wall Street and increasing oil prices were additional reasons. However, in the last 60 minutes of the session, WIG20 gained 30 points. Future events in the Warsaw Stock Exchange may be influenced by foreign markets, not only the Western European ones.

TP telecom was the anchor for WIG20. Shares were losing about 3 percent during the day and rebounded to minus 1.5 percent in the afternoon. PKN Orlen fuel giant did not rebound. Foreign investors keep selling its shares, which fell 1.4 percent to PLN 63 while they attracted most trade (PLN 154m). Grupa Lotos fuel company was the worst performer among blue chips and ended 2.7 percent up, at their new all time record of PLN 53. Copper prices rose, which helped KGHM copper producer. Another positive factor was its announcement that the management want to keep remuneration at the level of the year 2005. Shares rose to their new historical record of PLN 69.8.

Companies of medium capitalization are still very popular among investors. Alchemia was responsible for MIDWIG’s new record. Shares jumped 13.7 percent after the supervisory board of the company approved of negotiations with Skotan on a bio-fuel project.
