Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – The Polish government is trying to lure two automotive producers. Delphi Poland plans to develop its existing technical centre while Volvo considers enlarging its bus plant.

Volvo Polska wants to invest PLN 25m (EUR 6.4m) and enlarge its plant in Wroclaw. Production would cover buses. Till 2007, 800 new jobs would be created plus additional 500 jobs in subcontractors. “We may give Volvo PLN 2.6m because of creating new jobs”, Marcin Kaszuba, deputy Minister of Economy said. Volvo Polska refused to comment.

Delphi Poland is another company to receive state subsidy. The firm wants to increase its technical centre in Krakow and employ additionally 250 engineers (today, 560 engineers are employed there). “We offer Delphi Poland PLN 1m of subsidy for creating new jobs”, Marcin Kaszuba said. “We are pleased with the decision of the Polish government. It is a sign that research and development are supported. We are waiting for detailed agreement among the government and investor. The decision is another argument to launch additional projects in our country”, Marek Adamiak, Delphi director in Poland commented.

This is another investment in a R&D centre in Poland. Today, IBM said during its press conference that it is launching such a centre. The government approved of subsidy for IBM last week. The Polish government has pledged to support 12 companies, including MAN Trucks, Capgemini, IBM. Further 9 programmes are to be approved of soon.
