Marek Sawicki, the new minister of agriculture, has just come back from EU meeting and has good news for Polish companies. EU authorities have agreed to subsidize beef exporters selling to extra-EU countries. Instead, the subsidies for beef storage implemented recently will be withdrawn. This is how EU plans to get rid of extra beef.
“The mechanism should come into force this year”, Marek Sawicki said.
He was also assured by Brussels that a meeting among Poland, EU and Russia will take place in December concerning the Russian embargo for Polish food. Probably, ministers of foreign affairs will meet first and then, in January, ministers of agriculture as well.
The minister has also good news for milk producers suffering from too small milk quotas.
“There is a will to increase the quotas in EU countries. A 2 percent increase seems possible. Decisions will be made till March 2008”, the minister of agriculture said.
He added, however, that France and Germany will not
be eager to agree for quick levying of milk quotas.
