Foreign investors help the market reach 5th consecutive rise

Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – Today, WIG index rose for the fifth consecutive day. The rise was bigger than in previous days, however, amounted to 1.38 percent and help the index reach its new all-time record of 32,916.96. There's no doubt that it were foreign investors who bought today.

Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – Today, WIG index rose for the fifth consecutive day. The rise was bigger than in previous days, however, amounted to 1.38 percent and help the index reach its new all-time record of 32,916.96. There's no doubt that it were foreign investors who bought today. Stock markets in Budapest, Prague and Moscow rose, which means that western funds are investing in Central and Eastern Europe. WIG20 gained 1.61 percent and ended the day at 2,423.38. Only 3.6 percent more and it will reach its all-time record of March 10th 2000. Shares of blue chips worth PLN 870m (EUR 223.6m) changed hands. In the whole market, trade exceeded PLN 1 billion.

PKN Orlen fuel giant and TP telecom paced advances. Erste Bank raised its recommendation for PKN Orlen from 'keep' to 'buy', and the target price was increased to PLN 76.4 from (!) PLN 37.8. Shares rose 2.6 percent and ended at PLN 63.1. TP added 3.4 percent reaching a level recently achieved in March 2001. On October 25th, TP will publish its strategy, including plans concerning the acquisition of the remaining 34 percent stake in PTK Centertel from France Telecom.

Among smaller companies, Ster-Projek IT company should be listed – it added 4.6 percent after yesterday it said it had signed an agreement with Hewlett-Packard worth PLN 101.17m. Elektrim continued falls. Today, the company shed 18 percent.(PLN 1 = EUR 0.257)
