Foreign investors increase their presence

Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – In the first half of this year, for the first time in history, foreign investors generated over 40 percent of trade in the Polish stock market GPW. According to a poll made by GPW, their share rose to 43 percent. Polish institutional players had 33 percent of the market while individual investors 24 percent.

Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – In the first half of this year, for the first time in history, foreign investors generated over 40 percent of trade in the Polish stock market GPW. According to a poll made by GPW, their share rose to 43 percent. Polish institutional players had 33 percent of the market while individual investors 24 percent. “In the first half of the year, much has changed and foreign investors generated trade in Poland. The share of individual investors fell to the lowest level ever”, Tomasz Wisniewski from GPW commented.

In the second quarter of 2004, foreign investors’ transactions amounted to 36 percent of trade, while Polish small investors’ – 33 percent. 31 percent was generated by Polish institutional investors. “A factor reducing the activity of private investors is the tax paid for stock income”, Wieslaw Rozlucki, GPW CEO said. In the first half of 2005, UK investors constituted 76 percent of foreign investors trading in GPW. U.S. investors took the second place in the ranking with 5 percent, and Italian ones the third with 3 percent.
