Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz, the former PM, is going to become the CEO of the country’s biggest bank.
PM Jaroslaw Kaczynski decided yesterday that his predecessor – Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz - would become the CEO of PKO BP. The market was surprised as PKO BP is a listed company and its CEO should not be chosen by politicians.
“Qualifications in the banking or insurance sector are very precise. It’s surprising that politicians are chosen for such posts”, Andrzej Sadowski from Adam Smith’s Center think-tank commented.
He doubted whether Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz could become a CEO of a bank legally.
The Ministry of the Treasure refused to comment because “this is the domain of the bank’s supervisory board”. Maria Paslo-Wisniewska, MP of Civil Platform (PO) opposition party, and an ex-CEO of Pekao bank, said it straight.
“Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz does not have enough qualifications to become PKO BP CEO. People saying that being a PM of a big country is enough to become the CEO of a big bank, know nothing about managing banks”, she said.
She added that experience in managing financial institutions is one of the most important criteria.
“I don’t recollect PM Marcinkiewicz to have such experience and I believe it’s not good if rules are changed like this”, the Pekao ex-CEO said.
Artus Zawisza, the MP of Law and Justice (PiS) ruling party was the only person to see no problem here.
