Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – The staff of Poland’s listed copper producer are waiting for their representative to join the board of directors.

The GSM of KGHM ended nearly two weeks ago. The new management has since been operating in KGHM, however, without the representative of the employees. The previous one – Wiktor Bladek connected with SLD leftist party was not chosen again on June 14. He was the first deputy CEO in KGHM’s history to be chosen by employees. His nomination raised controversies because it was done while he was still the CEO of KGHM.

“The leftist party was changing the rules to make its candidate take part in the elections to provide him a well-paid position”, Jozef Czyczerski, the head of Solidarnosc KGHM trade union.

The monthly wage of the deputy CEO amounts to PLN 30,000 (EUR 7,290). According to Czyczerski, the deputy CEO representing the staff does not influence the management.

“The deputy CEO chosen from among the employees, is a guarantee that the management will be joined by a competent person who knows the company and its problems well”, Leszek Hajdacki, the deputy chairman of the Trade Union of the Employees of the Copper Industry ZZPPM commented.

ZZPPM has over 5,000 members and as the biggest trade union in KGHM may be sure that its candidate will get most support.

The elections should be conducted within a month since the GSM ended. The supervisory board of the company should announce the elections. The board is meeting this month.
